Yes, Fall reminds us to take time to be with the people we care about – and when we think about all the Fun we have helped our guests have over the past 35+ years, we immediately think about the laughs, the memories, and the way Kauai helps bring everyone closer together.

In this Feature story, we share some wonderful ideas for an ultimate golf vacation on Kauai: Your view from the greens! While you read, think about your favorite people in your life. Think about you how much Fun you would have together on Kauai. Then have a look at our Featured Properties and ask yourself:  How soon can I get over to the Garden Island?  :- )

Fall is a great time to start planning your next vacation. Sharing this story and getting your Family and Friends excited about a vacation on one of the most beautiful islands in the world is the next step. :- )

Let’s take a look at the many things a day on the golf course can mean for you! :- )

Breathtaking Views on the North Shore

Kauai’s North Shore is famous for breathtaking ocean views, shops, beaches and surfing. The North Shore is also where you and your Family can spend hours on the golf course and be amazed by the natural beauty all around you. Let us introduce you to the Prince Golf Course in Princeville.

This stunning golf course combines the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean with beautiful views of Kauai’s Mountains to the north. The multi-million dollar renovation was overseen by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr., who originally designed this course. The results put this course high on the list of “must-play” locations for avid golfers.

Named after Prince Albert, son of Hawaii’s King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, the Prince Golf Course will help you feel like royalty. The award-winning par-72 course is ranked by Golf Digest as the “#1 Golf Course in Hawaii” and “one of America’s Top 100 Greatest Courses.” Golf Week also rates the course among “America’s “Best 100 Resort Courses” and Golf Magazine includes it in the “Top 100 Courses.”

From the first tee to the 18th green, you will know why this course is a golfer’s dream! Lucky for all of us, there are more great golf courses to explore on the North Shore!

The Makai Golf Club (above) offers one of Hawaii’s premier championship layouts with 27 holes, located at the Princeville Resort.  Also designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the Makai opened in 1971 and is consistently ranked as one of Hawaii’s top golf experiences.

The Makai Golf Club was reopened in early 2010 after a wonderful renovation and now consists of two uniquely individual courses. The 18-hole Makai Course incorporates original Lake and Ocean nines, and plays to a par 72 with four sets of tees extending the course to more than 7,200 yards. The signature 7th hole on this course plays to 213 yards from the back tees.  It opens with a difficult tee shot over scenic cliffs onto a green surrounded by sandy bunkers and a backdrop of the mountains and Pacific Ocean.

Sounds like a golfer’s dream, yeah?  : -)

For casual golfers, the 9-hole Woods Course offers a leisurely game in a more relaxed layout. The course winds through the native woodlands of Kauai’s North Shore and provides a Fun, scenic afternoon for everyone.

In the mood to tighten up your game? The updated facility features 2 large new practice tees, a practice fairway bunker, a short game practice center, and seven target greens. Combined with its knowledgeable staff, the Makai Golf Club is a premier destination for all golfers!

On the South Shore: Experience Poipu!

Poipu Bay Golf Course was home to the PGA Championship from 1994-2006, and is the only course that provides a stunning view of “Mahaulepu,” an undeveloped part of Kauai’s coastline where you get a distant view of rock formations over 5 million years old. This amazing view helps fill your golf day with Fun and Amazement.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. (can you tell he knows his golf courses?) –  Poipu Bay Golf Course features 210 oceanfront acres that meander and weave along Kauai’s coastline. Within this course sits 85 bunkers, 5 ‘water hazards,’ and winds that change daily – making each round a unique and individual experience! Combine this with 30 acres of tropical plants, flowers, and coastal views of humpback whales spouting in the distance (during winter months) and we have a golf course that is exceptionally Kauai! Also, the golf carts feature satellite navigation so you never will get lost looking for your ball!

Poipu Bay Golf Course  also has historical and cultural significance. It is designed around ancient places of worship (heiau) and handmade stone walls estimated to be over 500 years old. Golfers may find peace of mind while playing their ball around these special areas.

Also on the South Shore, The Kiahuna Golf Club offers a newly renovated 18-hole golf course.

Situated in Poipu, it is another amazing course designed by the one and only Robert Trent Jones, Jr.  It too features remnants of an authentic Hawaiian village built into this unique course that also showcases beautiful scenery in a challenging golf environment.

One cool thing about The Kiahuna Golf Club’s website is that it offers tips from their golf pros on how to play each of their holes. Before your trip, visit the site and view the pictures and watch the videos so you’ll have a head start on conquering this challenging course.

After your game, grab your Friends and head to Joe’s on the Green where you can relax and have a nice tropical beverage and share stories about your day on the links.

The East Side: Oceanside Gems

The Kauai Lagoons Golf Club  in Lihue offers 27 holes designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. “The Kiele Course” is an 18-hole course that weaves through mango trees and takes golfers through Kauai’s “Amen Corner.” (That’s an area that once you make it past, folks often say 'amen' and keep going!)

The outward nine boasts the longest continuous stretch of ocean holes on Hawaii. WOW! Look at the photo above. Can you smell the ocean air already? We can!

The Waikane Nine, also at Kauai Lagoons Golf Club, is a more ‘forgiving’ course that is especially suited for juniors and families. At 12 noon you can combine the Waikane Nine with the Kiele Mauka Nine for an affordable 18-hole round of golf.  This is GREAT for Kauai travelers who want to golf and maintain a set budget. Either way, the views and experience of playing this unique course will stay with you long after your visit. : - )

Another great course on the East Side is the Puakea Golf Course with its majestic views of Mount Haupu and the Pacific!

Designed by one of Hawaii’s most renowned architects, Robin Nelson, this course utilizes deep ravines and mountain water-fed streams to challenge players and surround them in Kauai’s natural beauty splendor! Each round is different at Puakea as the position of the sun, direction of the wind, and course characteristics help you and your Friends have the best day ever. : )
