New Feature Story: The Countdown To Summer 2012

THE COUNTDOWN TO SUMMER 2012 IS ON!
Remember the trip to Kauai you have always wanted to take? You know… the one where you escape to an amazing ocean-view home, kick back on a beach chair, and enjoy the sounds of ukulele, steel guitar, and rolling ocean waves. Well wake up! It's time to make this dream a reality and it all begins here. Summer is on the way and Kauai is ready for your arrival. The days are getting longer, the birds are singing outside, and there are many great things to do on Kauai – and that's something to get excited about!
Welcome to Kauai Vacation Rentals' "Countdown to Summer 2012." Think of it as your own personal guide to getting the most from your upcoming holiday. Our 5-part series begins today with an overview of Kauai's four regions, highlighting what makes each special for you, your family, and your friends. Keep an eye out for the KVR Sandcastle where we punctuate fun activities you can do during your upcoming visit. You can also print this page and hang it on your refrigerator for inspiration! Ready to take a tour with us around Kauai? Let's go!
TAKE A WALK ON WHITE SAND!
We're talking about The East Side. "The Coconut Coast." A place where you can step out onto your lanai and view miles of white sandy beaches. This area of Kauai is perfect for folks who love a casual pace and like being close to restaurants and shops. Grab a cup of coffee or juice and walk amongst palm trees onto the warm, sun-kissed, powdery shore. When you feel that sand between your toes, you know you're in paradise! Looking for some ideas of what to do? Take an afternoon voyage down the Wailua River on Smith's Fern Grotto Wailua River Cruise. Then visit the quaint town of Kapa'a where you can pick up sunscreen, snacks, and beverages for the rest of your journey.
SOUTH SHORE CELEBRATION!
Poipu and the South Shore are made for family FUN. Great restaurants, beaches designed for kids, swimming, snorkeling, and more! In fact, if you come between March 11th and March 26th, you can enjoy The Prince Kuhio Celebration of the Arts. This annual event honors the birthday and birthplace of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole, a prince of the reigning House of Kalakaua born on the island of Kauai in 1871. Many activities follow his legacy of preserving native Hawaiian culture.
For example, witness powerful kahiko (ancient) Hula performed by men's hula group, 'Na Kane O Keoneloa,' and take classes on Native Hawaiian arts and cultural practices. Other festivities include a luau, an outrigger canoe race, and an international spear-fishing tournament. There is also a youth boxing tournament, a rodeo, and featured Hawaiian performers. The commemorative ceremonies mark an amazing cultural festival and most events are free. Click here to learn more!
THE WEST SIDE AND WAIMEA TOWN
Indeed, Kauai's four regions uniquely provide many things to do and see. On the West Side, hike through Waimea Canyon State Park and see some of Kauai's most magnificent vistas. Koke'e State Park has trails where you and your companion can reconnect with nature. Just south of the Canyon, Waimea Town is a great place to grab lunch and learn about Captain James Cook, the first recorded westerner to meet the native people of Kauai. The West Side is great for exploring Kauai history and your surroundings.
CONVENIENCE AND LUXURY ARE YOURS ON THE NORTH SHORE
So let's recap: Hiking and outdoor activities on the West Side… Family beaches on the South Shore... a relaxing pace on the East Side… Now let's take a drive north to the "end of the road" and witness an incredible Na Pali sunset at Ke'e Beach! The North Shore is the place to relax and get comfortable. Visit shops and collect souvenirs for friends and family who stayed home, while enjoying restaurants like Tahiti Nui, featured in the film, "The Descendants."

If golf is your game, the North Shore is your destination. Book a mid-morning tee time at Makai Golf Club and enjoy magnificent views of Kauai's amazing vistas and ocean. After your round, relax as a wonderful spa treatment at Westin's Heavenly Spa prepares you for another day on paradise. Just down the road from Princeville, the area of Anini has the largest reef in the state of Hawaii, making it a prime spot for snorkeling windsurfing all summer long.

Yes, it seems like the North Shore has everything all in one place… and that's just part of why we love Kauai. Are you excited about your vacation yet? ☺
