Countdown To Summer 2012: Golfer’s Paradise

Countdown to Summer 2012: A Golfer's Paradise
Aloha! Rise and shine, it's spring time on the Garden Island! How would you like to wake up, stretch, and start your day on Kauai? What's more, how would you like to step out into the tropical morning air, sling your golf bag onto your shoulder, and head to a Robert Trent Jones, Jr.- or Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course? Well, it's time. "Tee" time to be exact!
Welcome to your dream golf vacation, where you can play 18 holes in the AM, relax on a white sandy beach in the early afternoon, and rejuvenate with a wonderful massage before dinner. Whether you're taking a planned vacation with your golf buddies, a family trip with your loved ones, or some time away on your own, fairways and putting greens await you amidst the lush forests, gentle streams, and mountain views on Kauai!
This is Part 2 of our "Countdown to Summer 2012," showcasing some of Kauai's beautiful golf courses and spas. You are working hard this year, right? Give yourself a break and enjoy something you really love. While you're at it… pamper yourself with a Swedish and lomi-lomi massage! Think of this as your Kauai guide to your happiness and joy. Once again, look for the KVR Sandcastle signaling fun activities and travel tips for your upcoming visit. Remember, you can print this page and hang it on your refrigerator (or tie to your golf bag) for inspiration!
Play Like a Prince in Princeville
Walk out onto the Princeville Makai Golf Course and experience the impeccable course-design by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. (his first of four on Kauai), often referred to as "majestic, surreal and stunning." The track, re-turfed and renovated in 2010, is recognized by Golf, Inc. as the Top Renovation of the Year for 2011! The Makai Golf Club's awards (among several others) include the 25 Gold Medal Resorts in America by Golf Magazine and the Top 5 Great Golf Settings by National Geographic Traveler. It may be interesting to know that Robert has a home on Kauai and we manage it! Many guests have enjoyed staying at the golf course designer's home and playing his courses while on the Garden Island.
Are you bringing your golf clubs from the mainland? Each airline has different rules on checking golf bags as luggage. Most limit the number of clubs, golf balls, and pairs of golf shoes you can bring. Check with your airline for their specifications and consider packing your golf equipment inside a hard cover case for maximum protection. Some of the most common airline golf bag policies are listed here. Rent clubs from the Pro Shop if you choose to leave yours at home. Princeville Makai Golf Club offers Callaway golf club rentals for men, women, and juniors!
Have you ever wanted to step onto the grounds of royalty? Prince Golf Course at Princeville is named for Prince Albert, son of Hawaii's King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma. Called an "unforgettable golf experience," Prince Golf Course features natural elements of the Kauai environment such as a tropical jungle, ravines, streams, and even a waterfall. Like the Princeville Makai Golf Club, Prince Golf Course underwent a multi-million dollar renovation overseen by original architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. The course is now open for play as of 1 March. Call for tee times at (808) 826-5001! Tip: Pack your rangefinder to measure yardage, a camera to take pictures of the breathtaking scenery, and sunblock to protect yourself from the sun's rays!
Okay, so there's a lot of talk about golfing, but what about the spa treatments?! Halele'a Spa at the St. Regis Princeville Resort is magnificent. Let go and relax in a steam room infused with tropical essences. Experience a waterfall shower and sit in a relaxation room designed to rest your body and mind. The Spa Services at Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas features both outdoor (cabana) and indoor spa treatments that make you feel great. Enjoy several types of massage, including lomi-lomi, Swedish, sports, reflexology, deep tissue, and deep lomi-lomi. Feeling refreshed? Good! Because Poipu Bay Golf Course is waiting for you on the South Shore!
Poipu Is On Par!
Poipu Bay Golf Course is known for hosting the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 1994 to 2006 and has both gorgeous ocean and mountain views to share! Specifically, the distant rock formation called "Mahualepu" is a sight to see! The mound looks like a giant reclining Hawaiian god resting near the course. How cool! Other course characteristics include firm fairways and open fronts that allow the ball to roll onto the green, as well as ancient stone walls and remnants of structures called heiau (Ancient Hawaiian shrines). Oh, and here are a couple tips for Poipu Bay Golf Course: Be sure to utilize the satellite navigation system on your golf carts and make use of daily clinics and video instruction by the resident golf pros!

There are so many more award-winning courses to share with you! Where can we find room? Click here for a complete listing of Kauai golf courses and always remember to drink plenty of water and sports drinks on the course.
Whew! All this talk about playing golf and enjoying the outdoors inspires us to truly appreciate the beauty and splendor of Kauai. This month, there are so many great things to do after golfing. The Kauai Community College 4th Annual Earth Day Festival is on April 19th and the St. Theresa School Carnival celebrates the Aloha Spirit on the 20th and 21st!

Like I said before, I've never picked up a club before, but would love to start in Kauai. That would be a memorable first time for golfing. I hope there are some good teachers there.
